Has your Playstation 3 undergone the ring of death?

I remember when I first bought the Playstation 3, I was so excited to play games on the Playstation 3. However, after about two weeks my Playstation 3 died and could not turn on for some reason. I had to send it back to the gaming store and asked the reason it died. The guy said it was probably the ring of death and I was able to exchange for a new Playstation 3. Has your Playstation 3 undergone the ring of death? What happened to it?

The hype has died down. With the PS4 in full swing it is only going to get worse. I still play the PS3 though. Too many good games on it.

In my PS3's history it's never had a RROD-like problem. While all consoles have their problems the PS3 and Wii had fewer (the PS3's were mostly disc tray related or firmware and those were few and far between). That's not to say PS3 didn't have its own RROD-like problem, but it wasn't a phenomena.

Am on my third PS3 my first one the Blu-Ray player broke and my second on got the yellow light but had my slim now for 3 years now and had no problems at all

Never had a YL problem with a PS3. There was a minor disc tray issue with my second, but it was easily fixed.

My first PS3 had a bad disc tray that I sent in to Sony and had it fixed, but nothing of a RROD nature. That really sounds like an Xbox thing for the most part.

The first PS3 I ever had got the Yellow Light. But it was my fault. It was an overheating issue. I bought the Slim PS3 shortly after and have taken good care of it ever since. That was back in 2009. If you take good care of your system, it should last you a good long while.

I also got the infamous YLOD after getting my hands on Assassin's Creed 2 on Christmas day. I more than likely overheated the poor unit, but I fronted the extra money just so I could hold on to the original 60GB unit I had, since I loved the fact that it had 'all' the features. I still keep my PS1/2 around, but I like having the single PS3 to run my old games.

Seems like it's always the old systems that go. The ones that had all the best features! :/ The PS3 that died for me was the 80GB. All those media slots and USB ports. And PS2 emulation!

You were very fortunate to have that happen to you early on, I think, as it would be terrible for that to happen when the machine is no longer under warranty. I personally have never experienced this, fortunately, as I make sure not to overwork my console and when I do, I always have a mini fan running behind it so as to prevent it from unnecessary overheating.

Knock on wood here but since I have had my PS3 I have never had any type of problem with it. Although if it does give me any type of problem right now I would just buy a PS4 because I plan to get one later this year anyway. So far my PS3 has been faithful to me even through the marathon gaming periods.

Nope! I've had my PS3 since it was released and surprisingly i haven't got the ring of death! It's quite surprising considering I don't really treat my ps3 that well.

It's getting much slower now and sometimes it turns off randomly, but it still works. Even thought the PS4 is out, I still love playing games like TLOU on my PS3 so I'm hoping it doesn't die on me anytime soon.
