When you buy a PS4 game on smartphone, it will wake your PS4 up to start downloading

I haven't seen this mentioned here, but it appears that, when you purchase a PS4 game online via Vita or your Smartphone, your PS4 will automatically turn on, download the game and then turn off. This is likely to inspire a number of impulse buys from guys like me who always has friends convince me to grab a game while I'm somehow away from my console. Nice to know I can buy it and have it ready by the time I get home.

I am hoping that this is an option, like the current download queue of the store's website, and not something that's forced onto users. It's a nice feature, though.

The trouble with me is, that my wireless connection would be turned off so my PS4 wouldn't wake up and start downloading. Obviously, you would have to have a wireless connection on all the time to your PS4 as that would be the only way it could wake up and download. So if you bought a game and didn't have a connection to the PS4 at the time what would it do? Saying that though, I never buy digital copies of games.

This actually sounds like a great feature! But I wonder what wake up means. Will it actually wake up fully or will it just be downloading in background and not really showing the screen stuff etc, since obviously we won't be using it that time.

The thing is, does it only work on smartphones? What if i am at a friend's house, and he has a cool game and i want to do the same thing, but in his PC because i don't have a smartphone or my battery is dead, will it still work?

I would assume that that's the case. The smartphone and the PS Vita are just interfaces that send request to the Playstation servers which then is in charge of waking up your PS4 and starting the download. I don't see why they couldn't build it into an interface on their website.

Well maybe it will also work with demo's and DLC.
Plus if you are a PS+ member you get free games too,so it would work with that as well Im sure.

This sounds rather awesome, but also rather horrible - I don't trust anything that turns on without my express approval. I don't know... it feel just really kind of hackable. I wonder if hacking is going to be a thing for PS4/Xbone this generation?

WOW!!!! If this is true I can't wait. When I do download games from the PSN store this will be nice. I can do this when I'm at work. When I come home at night the game will already be downloaded. The thing is you probably have to sign some time of policy or approve this for this to happen. It is kind of creepy when things turn on by themselves.

I think this is the way it should be for a lot of things. We have all this mobile smart technology and you really want to save time, the best way to do this is to do things that make sense with devices we already have. It makes it much more engaging to figure out what to do with your PS 4 when you're not in front of it. It also kind of adds to that marketing sheet the PS 4 is already building up.

To all you people that don't plan on buying digital copies of games you'll be missing out on all the indie developers stuff and to say you won't buy digital based on you're preconceptions of digital copies seems stupid. Its the way future gaming is going but hey it's your loss.

Peace out Tal.

I never said i don't plan on not buying a digital copy of a game. I just don't plan on making the purchase over the internet from my PC or Phone. If i wan't a title like Minecraft i will buy it from my console.

I didn't even know it would be able to do that. I feel like this definitely will cause a lot of impulse buys. Well, there goes all of my money.

That sounds like an amazing feature. This could be really helpful whenever you're not home and decide to buy a game. Whenever I get bored when I go outside, I usually browse fun games to play. The fact that I can go home and be ready to play the game is awesome. I'm sure this will benefit people everywhere.

Absolutely it will! The E3 video mentioned the console's ability to download games and media even while the main system's power is off. While I'm curious to exactly what this means and how it can be aware of incoming downloads without consuming too much power, it sounds like an amazing feature that puts the PS4 into an even higher level of entertainment and ease than what I had expected. And sure, this isn't the biggest feature in the world, but the fact that they put it in shows exactly how thorough they're being with the system's development. In short, if they took the time to even do this, they must have put a lot of thought into the system.

That actually sounds pretty convenient, download/installation looks like it's going to be taking up a lot of time in the new generation of consoles. A very practical way to speed up that process.

This is quite nice for everyone who uses their phone to massive web operations, just imagine you going through the mall or some sort of, you see a game you like, "oh nice, let me buy that via PSN store so I can play it when I arrive home", most epic feeling ever, however how are they enabling some sort of remote log on via phone with the console turned off? well either this is solved, or this is a stupid question.
