Dualshock 5 not charging as it should?

I've been using the console since I got it on the 12th... and something that I noticed is that the controller doesn't seem to be charging well. I'm using the supplied cable, plugged into the console's front port, and I leave it plugged in with the console in Rest Mode*. This should power the controller for 3 hours, but when I turn it back on the next day, it only has one bar (out of 4) of charge. I also notice the controller light doesn't indicate charging, in this state. In contrast, doing the same with my PS4&DS4 yields a full charge.

Anyone else having issues with this?

* Yes, I know Rest Mode has had some issues, but last I checked it was only for a few specific games. I'm also saving/exiting the game, instead of leaving an active game in the background.

Okay... I'll check for an update tonight... there was an update last night, though, so maybe that was it?
Yes, so, if you didn't download that, do it tonight. But if you did, this issue may not have been the solution to your issue. Don't put your PS5 in Rest Mode for any game for the time being. Only use Rest Mode for downloads, or charging.

It's kinda the same arguement as the "download game in background as you play a game." It works, but I would never do that on a large-scale game on PS4. I would play something like DOOM (original 16 bit era), or Dead Cells while you download Warzone in the background. Basically, you want to be playing a low-powered game and download high-powered game at the same time. If you play a high-powered game (like Final Fantasy 7 Remake), then your huge Warzone download is just taxing the console.

Okay, I've checked the update version - it is on the latest already, 20.02-02.25.00.

Without a game running in the background, I plugged the controller in and put the console into Rest. The controller light pulsed for a little while, as the console when through its things. However, once the console lights went from white to yellow (fully in Rest), the light on the controller went off. It was even mid-pulse, so the shut-off was dramatic. Definitely not getting power from the console.

Also, while I was working today, I had the controller plugged into a wall adapter with a normal USB-C cable (not the one supplied from Sony). It pulsed for a while, and I put it aside, but it still didn't show more than one bar when I started using it just recently.

I'm leaning toward the battery/charging circuit in the controller itself being defective, and considering filing a warrant replacement of some sort.

I see. As for bolded, you can buy the charging station. I recommend that thing as an alternative. :) Better than exchanging or returning. I think the charging cable just needs a full firmware update.

I ran another experiment while I ate dinner and the console was in rest mode. I have a spare Usb-c to c cable, for my Android phone, that I connected to the console. After 2 hours, the controller has full charge.

Next to check is the charging speed of the rear ports. Less convenient, though.
