PS4/PS5 user query

Hi,
Just got a PS5 and a few decent games on it (Dirt/Rocket League/etc) on my PSN account. The son-in-law still has a PS4 which is also on my PSN account (he's <13 and we don't want to give him his own account) and he has seen the games I've got on the PS5 and wants them. Happy for him to get the games but I just don’t want all the game data/achievements/etc sync across and he'll lose the ability to gain these and I'll lose out as he'll play it more than I will.

My question is does the game data sync across the platforms or is it tied to the unit?
TIA,
Dave

I want you to hear me out, ok? In the past you were able to "game-share," right? But gamesharing can get you banned if Sony suspects you and your son-in-law sharing games "for free." Each game download is actually a license to play. On PS4, people still do it and don't get banned. However during the PS5 launch, with the PlayStation Plus Collection program, players did the same thing, only this time, they took it to a new notch. They sold the PlayStation Plus Collection games for a profit.

It's basically the same thing as those account "raise" (logging into your account and playing Modern Warfare to get max rank). You buy them, and you're banned if they find out you're selling accounts or trading or sharing - its all the same basic principles.

So your in-law needs to get his own account, and you play with yours. You guys need to treat your 13 year old like an adult, stop the "shielding" away from games that are ...teen label or mature label.

The good news is most multiplayer games are now "cross-platform." Dirt 5 and Rocket League are cross-platform games. Meaning you and your in-law can play with each other once your in-law creates a new account, and you can invite him to your game. Doesn't matter if you're on PS5, and he's on PS4.

Carlos,

Thank you for the time taken to reply it is appreciated, the situation is kind of as I expected.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but unless you know a persons situation I would suggest not commenting or criticising a person on how they have/are bringing up their children!!! I wouldn’t dream of telling you how to bring up your kids (if you have any), I’m sure they are perfect and completely compliant to everything you (would?) say! You are fortunate, other children aren’t as compliant, etc!

I was speaking in general. The thing is, most parents don't want kid to do "x" so they do "x," which is why I said what I said. I am 38, owner of the site you see here. As a kid, I understood that violence is bad, and whatever is on TV is fake. Teach your in-law that kind of thing, and he'll grow to be what YOU want him/she to be, is what I was getting at. What it sounds like to me you guys want him to play certain games under account. There ARE controls in parental options, so learn that first, then create the new account so you don't have to worry about him going outside the box of your rules.

Good luck.

And one more thing, don't do child accounts - it is attached to YOUR master account. Let him make a new account on his console. Go in there and configure the parental options. Not in front of him, but do it while he's not looking.
