The Last of Us PS3 Owners Won't Get a Discount on Remastered PS4 Version

Sadly for those that had the PS3 version the official word is you wont be getting a discount for any upgrade to the PS4 version.

Gamespot said:
People who already own a PlayStation 3 copy of The Last of Us will not be given an "upgrade discount" if they decide to buy the PlayStation 4 Remastered iteration, Sony announced today
"Alas, there is no upgrade discount," Sony's Fred Dutton said today in the comments section on the European PlayStation Blog. Meanwhile, Sony's Sid Shuman writes on the North American PlayStation Blog that "no upgrade path" will be available. The company didn't say today why this wasn't possible.

There is some good news for multiplayer fans, however, as all of the multiplayer DLC you bought on PS3 can be downloaded to the PS4 version at no extra charge.

Dutton also confirmed on the European PlayStation Blog that The Last of Us Remastered's multiplayer component in Europe will be censored to tone down the gore, just like the PS3 version was. "Multiplayer is the same as in the EU PS3 version--there have been no changes in this respect," he said.

I think that is a fair decision on Sony's part. Why should some one get a discount on a a totally new game for a totally new console just because they own the old version? That's like me asking for a discount on a new Double Dragon just because I own the Super Nintendo version. This shouldn't upset any one, I think it is a fair deal.

$60 is way too much for a two year old game slightly upgraded for PS4. I guess if you never had a PS3 it's a pretty good buy. I enjoyed the original, but for me it was all about the story, and not the gameplay. Graphics were excellent on PS3, and I have no urge to play through again, since there's no decision making whatsoever.

Now, if they released an uncharted trilogy I might pick that up, since I only ever played the third one.

Actually, the game only became a year old last month.

That's okay because I never bought the game lol. Seriously though, this version has got upgraded visuals, and DLCs so it's like a new game so there's no reason to offer upgrade plans. I understand it would've been better if they did but I can see their justification here. Similar to how people don't get upgrades when GOTY editions get released.

Good. There isn't any reason to offer a discount.

It's not bad for companies to be nice to already-existing customers.

Then again, it's still the same game and all, just some honestly minor upgrades. It seems to be targeted towards those that never played the game on PS3 anyway.

It's not "totally new". It's a port. It's not even a remake.
